The American University Emerging Global Leader Scholarship (AU EGL) is currently accepting applications for 2025. This scholarship is designed for outstanding international students committed to civic and social change who wish to pursue a bachelor’s degree in the United States. It is especially focused on students who aim to return home and contribute to underserved communities.

Scholarship Coverage

The scholarship provides full tuition, room, and board for successful applicants. However, it does not cover non-billable expenses such as:
- Health insurance
- Books
- Travel costs (airline tickets)
- Miscellaneous expenses (approximately $4,000 annually)

The scholarship is renewable for up to four years of undergraduate study, subject to satisfactory academic performance.

Eligibility Criteria

The scholarship is open to students from any country except the United States. Preference is given to students who meet the following requirements:
- A minimum GPA of 3.8 out of 4.0 or equivalent (top 10% of graduating class) in grades 9-12.
- Demonstrated leadership, volunteerism, and community service.
- Commitment to advancing the needs of underprivileged communities in their home country.

Language Proficiency Requirements:
Applicants must meet at least one of the following test scores:
- TOEFL iBT: 95+ (with all subscores 20 or above)
- IELTS: 7.0 + (with all subscores 6.0 or above)
- SAT Reading: 33+
- ACT English: 29+
- Duolingo: 125+ (with all subscores 115 or above)
- Cambridge Assessment English: 185+ (with all subscores 169 or above)

Additional Requirements:
- Applicants must still be in secondary/high school and graduate by June 2025.
- Applicants must not be U.S . citizens, permanent residents, or dual citizens.
- Students currently enrolled in post-secondary studies or those who graduated secondary school before 2023 are not eligible.
