The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at Sa’adu Zungur University (SAZU) has called off the indefinite strike that commenced on November 29, 2024.
The strike aimed to push for the implementation of pension and death benefit schemes, as well as the payment of earned academic and excess workload allowances for staff.
Meeting Ends Strike
The decision to suspend the strike followed a meeting on December 14, 2024, at the Yuli Campus.
After discussions with the state government, the ASUU branch at SAZU resolved to end the industrial action. The suspension was officially confirmed in a statement issued by Comrade Auwal Nuhu, the ASUU Chairperson, on Monday.
Agreement Reached Through MoU
ASUU and the Bauchi State government reached an agreement formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
Governor Bala Mohammed played a key role in the discussions, which were described as productive. Comrade Nuhu acknowledged the governor’s efforts in addressing the union’s concerns.
Union to Monitor Agreement Implementation
The strike was suspended unanimously after the government assured ASUU of its commitment to fulfilling the agreements.
ASUU plans to monitor the implementation closely to ensure all promises are met. The union remains committed to improving staff welfare and addressing the issues raised.
This development represents a positive step towards enhancing the educational environment at Sa’adu Zungur University and ensuring staff satisfaction.
