Augustine University, Ilara-Epe, Lagos, has announced the appointment of Rev. Father Professor Anthony Alaba Akinwale, OP, as its third substantive Vice-Chancellor.
The announcement was made by the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Sir Steve Bamidele Omojafor, and the appointment takes effect from September 1, 2025, after the tenure of the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Professor Christopher Odetunde.
Rev. Fr. Akinwale is a Catholic Priest of the Order of Preachers (Dominicans), a Professor of Systematic Theology and Thomistic Philosophy, and a renowned scholar with decades of academic and administrative experience.
He was the pioneer Vice-Chancellor of Dominican University, Ibadan (2017–2022) and has served as Deputy Vice-Chancellor at Augustine University since 2023.
According to the Board of Trustees, his appointment reflects the university’s commitment to academic excellence, moral integrity, and holistic student formation.
The board expressed appreciation to Prof. Odetunde for his service and congratulated Prof. Akinwale on his new role.
