Suspected bandits attacked a church in Ejiba community, Yagba West LGA of Kogi State, abducting a pastor, his wife, and several worshipers.
The attack happened during a service at a new Cherubim and Seraphim Church on Sunday, November 30, 2025.
A witness, Adegboyega Oguns, said the congregation fled in panic when the gunmen invaded. He confirmed that the pastor, popularly known as Orlando, his wife, and others were taken away.
"Itโs a new Cherubim and Seraphim church. The pastor popularly called Orlando and his wife, with some others, have been kidnapped," he said.
"It is serious. We all ran out of church."
The Kogi State Government confirmed the incident and said security agencies, vigilantes, and hunters were already on the trail of the kidnappers.
The Commissioner for Information and Communication, Kingsley Fanwo, urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements.
"I can confirm that our security network is currently on their trail. We will get our people back," he said.
He added that the governor has been briefed and efforts are ongoing to secure the release of the victims.
Fanwo also appealed to churches located in outskirts to be extra cautious, noting that criminals often target isolated areas.
"We have to be alive to worship God. God doesn't encourage us to take unnecessary risks. Let us do the right things at the right time. It won't be like this for long; we are winning the battle," he added.
