When buying gas for your cylinder, it's important to know how the filling process works so you can ensure you're getting exactly what you pay for. Here’s how you can calculate the amount of gas filled using a simple method:

1. UNDERSTAND THE INITIAL WEIGHT DISPLAY

When you take your gas cylinder to be refilled, the attendant will first weigh the cylinder on a scale. The number you see on the scale before filling begins is the INITIAL WEIGHT of the cylinder. This weight includes the tare weight (the weight of the empty cylinder) and any remaining gas inside.

2. DECIDE HOW MUCH GAS YOU WANT TO BUY

Let’s say you want to buy 2 kg of gas. The amount of gas to be filled will be added to the initial weight displayed on the scale. For example, if the initial weight of your cylinder is 10 kg, and you want to buy 2 kg of gas, the final weight should be 12 kg (10 kg initial weight + 2 kg gas).

3. OBSERVE THE FILLING PROCESS

During the filling process, the attendant will keep adding gas until the scale reads the final weight (initial weight + the amount of gas you want to buy). In our example, the attendant will stop filling when the scale reaches 12 kg.

4. CHECK THE FINAL WEIGHT

Once the cylinder is filled, check the scale to ensure the final weight matches what you expect. If you asked for 2 kg of gas, the final weight should be exactly 2 kg more than the initial weight.

5. VERIFY THE PRICE

Ensure the price you’re charged corresponds to the exact amount of gas filled. If the final weight is correct, you can be confident that you received the right amount of gas.

EXAMPLE SCENARIO

- INITIAL WEIGHT: 10 kg (before filling)

- GAS PURCHASED: 2 kg

- FINAL WEIGHT: 12 kg (after filling)

In this case, the final weight should be 12 kg. If the scale shows this, you know you’ve received 2 kg of gas as requested.

By understanding this process, you can make sure you’re getting exactly the amount of gas you pay for, helping you avoid being cheated.
