JAMB to enforce 18 years as minimum entry age into Tertiary Institutions from next year

The Federal Government, through the Minister of Education, has announced a new policy that will restrict admissions to tertiary institutions to candidates aged 18 and above, starting next year. Initially, the policy was intended to be implemented this year, but it faced mixed reactions. After further discussions, it was decided to delay the implementation to next year, as many of the current JAMB candidates are under 18 and unaware of the new rule.

Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, explained that the 18-year age requirement aligns with the 6-3-3-4 education system.

He also mentioned that for those unable to enter tertiary institutions, the Ministry is introducing skill-based education starting from primary school.
