About the Competition

This annual essay competition honours the late Miss Jemila Abubakar, the pioneer programme manager of the Asido Foundation, who was a passionate advocate for mental health awareness before her passing in July 2020.

Theme for 2025

“Bridging the Gap: Innovative Solutions for Mental Health Support in African Tertiary Institutions”

Participants are invited to propose innovative ideas for addressing mental health challenges in tertiary institutions across Africa.

- First Prize: N200,000
- Second Prize: N150,000
- Third Prize: N100,000

Eligibility Criteria

To participate, ensure you meet the following requirements:
- You must be an undergraduate enrolled in a Nigerian tertiary institution.
- Proof of studentship is required.
- You must sign the Asido Foundation’s Unashamed Pledge.

Essay Requirements

- Word count: 750–1,000 words.
- Submission format: Microsoft Word document.
- Include:
- A scanned copy of a recent photograph.
- Proof of studentship.
- Unashamed Pledge certificate.
- Essays containing plagiarism or AI-generated content will be disqualified.
