FUGUSAU Gets NUC Approval to Commence Programmes in College of Health Sciences
The National Universities Commission (NUC) has granted the Federal University Gusau (FUGUSAU) approval to commence five (5) undergraduate academic programmes in the newly-established College of Health Sciences. The approval was contained in a memo ref: NUC/AP/F39/VOL.1/59 , dated 11th December 2024, and signed by Abubakar M. Girei, Acting Director of Academic Planning, on behalf of the Acting Executive Secretary of the NUC, Mr. Chris Maiyaki.
• MBBS - Medicine and Surgery
• B.N.Sc . - Nursing Science
• B.PT . - Physiotherapy
• B.DS . - Dental Surgery
• B.Sc . - Human Nutrition and Dietetics
Additionally, the approval covers the commencement of the B.Sc . Geography programme in the Faculty of Management and Social Sciences. According to the NUC document, these full-time programmes are to take effect from the 2024/2025 academic session.
Impact of the New Programmes:
The approved College of Health Sciences will serve as a cornerstone for training future healthcare professionals, including doctors, dentists, nurses, physiotherapists, and nutritionists, equipped to address modern healthcare challenges.
It is worth recalling that an NUC Resource Verification team visited the University from October 22nd to 23rd, 2024, to assess its readiness. The team commended the commitment of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mu'azu Abubakar Gusau, to ensure the successful takeoff of these programmes.
