A surprising incident occurred on an Ibom Air flight traveling from Uyo to Abuja on the morning of Wednesday, October 8, 2025, when a passenger was apprehended for allegedly stealing ₦290,000 from a foreign national shortly before takeoff.
The event unfolded around 7:00 a.m ., just after all passengers had boarded. According to witnesses, the foreign traveler raised an alarm upon realizing that the cash he kept in his bag — stored in the overhead bin — had vanished.
Flight attendants began an immediate inquiry, during which another passenger reportedly stated they saw someone tampering with the foreigner’s luggage. The accused, however, denied the allegation.
Despite the denial, the victim remained adamant that ₦290,000 was missing, prompting a search of the suspect’s belongings. Initially, no cash was found, but when a fellow passenger recommended a personal search, the suspect appeared increasingly uneasy.
A more detailed search eventually revealed the missing money concealed in his socks and under his seat. Airport security was called, and the suspect was removed from the plane and handed over for further questioning. The event left passengers shocked and disappointed. After resolving the issue, the flight proceeded to Abuja. At the time of reporting, Ibom Air had not released an official statement regarding the matter.
