The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) invites qualified Nigerians to apply for the 2025-2026 Overseas Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme.
Scholarship Overview
This programme supports MSc and PhD studies at selected universities abroad, helping to build skills for Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.
What the Scholarship Covers
- Flight tickets
- Health insurance
- Full tuition and bench fees (where applicable)
- Living and housing allowances
Study Locations
Scholars will study in:
- United Kingdom
- Germany
- France
- Malaysia
- College of Petroleum and Energy Studies, Kaduna (CPESK)
Partner Universities
For postgraduate energy studies, PTDF partners with:
- Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen
- University of Strathclyde, Glasgow
- University of Portsmouth
Selection Process
Selection is based on:
- Academic qualifications and full transcripts
- Relevant published works (PhD applicants)
- Membership of professional bodies
- Study or research plans
- Link between previous study and oil and gas industry
Shortlisted candidates will be invited for interviews.
Requirements to Apply
MSc Applicants:
- Minimum of Second-Class Upper Degree (or Second-Class Lower with oil and gas experience)
- NYSC completion
- Computer literacy
- Five O’Level credits (including English and Mathematics)
- Statement of Purpose (max 500 words)
- Verified National Identity Number (NIN)
PhD Applicants:
- NYSC completion
- Computer literacy
- Five O’Level credits (including English and Mathematics)
- Second-Class Lower First Degree and a good Postgraduate Degree
- Research proposal (max 5 pages)
- Verified National Identity Number (NIN)
Important Rules
- Scholarships are only for the 2025/2026 session.
- Only PTDF-approved courses at partner universities are eligible.
- Candidates funded for MSc or PhD by PTDF before cannot reapply for the same or lower levels.
- Applicants holding other scholarships are not eligible.
- Lecturers must submit confirmation letters from Vice-Chancellors.

- Degree Certificate or Statement of Result
- NYSC Discharge Certificate
- WAEC/GCE/SSCE/NECO results (with PINS)
- Passport Photograph
- Local Government Identification Letter
- Master’s Degree Certificate (for PhD applicants)
- Proof of professional body membership (if applicable)
Transcripts should be prepared early for the interview.
