Suspect Arrested In Lagos School Two Months After Allegedly Raping Minor

A yet-to-be-identified man has been arrested in Lagos after a secondary school student recognized him as the person who allegedly raped her two months earlier in the Ojodu area.
The suspect, believed to be a local shoe repairer who sometimes appears homeless, was apprehended on the school premises on Wednesday after the victim spotted him and raised an alarm. Angry residents subsequently handed him over to officers at the Ojodu Police Division.
According to reports and accounts from residents, the initial incident occurred when the suspect visited the girlโs home pretending to be thirsty, forced his way inside while she fetched water, and assaulted her. The victim initially kept silent about the attack but later documented it in her diary, which was discovered by someone else.
The suspect is also accused of attempting to sexually assault another female student from the same school. The second incident reportedly happened when he followed the girl into a restroom during a church programme and tried to force himself on her. She managed to fight him off and escape.
The school principal was only informed of the earlier rape when the survivor identified the suspect on school grounds. The man is currently in police custody as investigations continue.
