The Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition 2025

The Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition 2025 is open to young writers from all Commonwealth countries. With the theme “Our Commonwealth Journey,” the competition invites essays about personal or imagined journeys — through places, time, or people — inspired by the legacy and future of the Commonwealth.

Senior Category
- For those born between 23 May 2006 and 23 May 2011
- Word limit: 1,500 words
- Choose one topic:
- A Commonwealth where all people get the same chance at school
- Retell a famous folklore from your country or another
- A book that took you on a journey and how it changed you
- The life story of a plant growing in your town or village

Junior Category
- For those born on or after 23 May 2011
- Word limit: 750 words
- Choose one topic:
- A time you learned something new about a Commonwealth country
- A sea journey from one country to a small island nation
- Entering your best-loved book through a secret door
- Animals from different countries meet — what do they say?

Prizes
- Two winners (one from each category) will receive a fully funded trip to London for one week
- Includes cultural activities, networking, and a final event at a Royal Palace
- All participants receive a Certificate of Participation
- Outstanding entries may be awarded Gold, Silver, or Bronze Awards

Eligibility
- Open to residents of any Commonwealth country or territory
- Also open to residents of Hong Kong, Ireland, and Zimbabwe

Deadline
Entries must be submitted by 23 May 2025
