The management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka (UNIZIK) has officially banned the popular final-year students’ “signing off” celebrations.
In a statement signed by the Registrar, Dr. Chinenye Okeke, the directive takes immediate effect. The university cited recurring incidents of chaos, violence, and disruption of academic activities as reasons for the ban.
Key Points from the Statement:
- All forms of “signing off” activities are completely and indefinitely banned on campus.
- The ban is to prevent violence, disruption, and the presence of unauthorised individuals.
- Any student caught engaging in such activities risks severe disciplinary actions, including suspension or rustication.
- Outsiders who come into the university for these activities may face arrest and prosecution for disorderly conduct.
The Registrar emphasized that the university is committed to maintaining a safe and secure academic environment and will not tolerate any actions that threaten peace on campus.
Students have been urged to focus on their academic responsibilities and promptly report any misconduct or security threats to the appropriate authorities.
