The Federal Government has announced that both WAEC and NECO exams will transition to computer-based testing (CBT) starting in 2026. The shift will begin with objective questions in November 2025, and by May–June 2026, all sections—including essay papers—will be fully CBT.

What This Means
CBT means candidates will take their exams using computers instead of paper. JAMB already uses CBT, and it's credited with reducing exam malpractice and improving result integrity.

Timeline for the Transition
- November 2025: Objective questions will be CBT
- May–June 2026: All exam sections, including theory, will be CBT

Why This Matters
- Reduces cheating and use of “miracle centres”
- Increases fairness and credibility of results
- Encourages schools to improve digital literacy
- Prepares students for modern assessment standards

Students preparing for WAEC or NECO from 2026 onwards should begin building strong computer skills to adapt smoothly to this major shift in exam format.
